Every report starts as Unverified and becomes Confirmed only after multiple nearby neighbors confirm it. Reports expire automatically, near-duplicate reports merge into one, submissions are rate-limited and kept inside Maine, and anyone can flag false or abusive posts.
MaineAlert is a community-awareness tool only. It is not affiliated with, operated by, or monitored by any law-enforcement, immigration, fire, or emergency agency, and submitting a report here does not contact emergency services. In an emergency, always call 911.
MaineAlert has no accounts and asks for no name, phone, or email to use the map. We deliberately collect as little as possible: IP addresses are stored hashed/shortened only for spam and abuse prevention and are auto-deleted on a schedule, and push-notification location (if you opt in) is coarsened and never tied to your identity. Please don't put personal information about yourself or others in a report.
