Terms & Conditions

Last updated: June 7, 2026

These Terms govern your use of MaineAlert (the "Service"), a free community-reported safety and event map for the state of Maine. By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.

Not an emergency service. MaineAlert is a community-awareness tool only. It is not affiliated with, operated by, or monitored by any law-enforcement, immigration, fire, or emergency agency, and posting here does not contact anyone who can help. In an emergency, always call 911.

1. Community-generated information; no warranty

Reports are submitted by members of the public and are not verified by us. They may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or wrong. The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, including accuracy, reliability, or fitness for a particular purpose. Do not rely on it as your sole source of information or for any safety-critical decision.

2. Acceptable use

You agree to use the Service lawfully and responsibly. You will not:

3. Your content

You are responsible for what you submit. By submitting a report you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display, store, and distribute it within the Service. You represent that you have the right to post it. We may moderate, hold for review, label, hide, or remove any content, and block sources, at our discretion and without notice.

4. Geographic scope

The Service is intended for reporting within the state of Maine; submissions outside Maine are rejected.

5. Privacy

Our handling of information is described in our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms.

6. Intellectual property

Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors and used under its license. The MaineAlert name and the site's design and original content belong to us. You may not copy or reuse them except as allowed by law.

7. Disclaimers & limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, MaineAlert and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss arising from your use of — or reliance on — the Service or any report. Your sole remedy for dissatisfaction is to stop using the Service.

8. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless MaineAlert and its operators from claims arising out of your content or your use of the Service in violation of these Terms or the law.

9. Changes & termination

We may modify the Service or these Terms at any time; continued use means you accept the updated Terms. We may suspend or discontinue the Service, or restrict access, at any time.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maine, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and you agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Maine.

11. Report abuse / contact
